Today I’d like to introduce you to Kemp and Kemp Catering and talk about wedding food trends.
Karen of Kemp and Kemp Catering knows that whilst there are trends that should certainly be ignored (charcoal activated anything!) there is one trend that has most definitely lit her culinary candle: modern eating.
As a chef wed to an avid carnivore, ‘it’s nice but it needs something more’, is a phrase that could often be heard when Richard is handed a meat-free meal.
In recent years, the Kemps have noticed that clients are increasingly requesting fresher, cleaner and generally lighter food on their wedding day – regardless of dietary requirements, or beliefs.
If you’re reading this, you might have just gotten engaged and have no idea where to start. It can be overwhelming when you don’t know how to get the ball rolling on your planning. There are so many options when it comes to the details, and you don’t want to just aimlessly look at all that’s available. To give you some insight on how to get your wedding planning started, follow these steps!
Set up a budget
The very first thing you need to do when you get engaged is set up a financial plan. Before you look at venues, dresses, or decorations, you have to establish your budget. Evaluate your savings and take out a personal loan with low interest to set aside the amount you want to spend on your wedding. Once you have a limit set, it will keep you from going overboard when looking at options.
Go to a bridal show
When you’re unsure of what you’d like for your wedding, it can be difficult to choose between all of the vendors and locations that are in your local area. Attend a bridal show so you can explore the options and get a feel for what your desired style is. You’ll be able to compare prices and methods between photographers, florists, and caterers. Use a wedding planning binder to keep all of the pamphlets and business cards of vendors you’re interested in organized so you can reference them when you go to book them later. Make notes of which professionals you liked and why, so you can easily differentiate between them.
In this post would like to feature some wedding photographs and wedding story of Gemma and Matthew, a lovely couple who I photographed last summer at Shottle Hall, Derbyshire. The wedding story and the list of suppliers was kindly provided by Gemma – thank you! Now, enjoy the story and the photographs 🙂

How did you two meet?
When we were teenagers we met through mutual friends, but it took us five years to get together!
How did he pop the question?
At sunset at Uluru in Australia during our year travelling round in a van. He put music on and asked me to turn around pretending to take a picture. When I turn back around he was down on one knee!
What was your favorite moment(s) from the wedding?
Oh so many! I loved the ceremony and the quiet moment afterwards just the two of us a brand new married couple. The time just the two of us taking photos in the field was very special too.
How long have you been together?
Almost 8 and a half years when we got married.
How would you describe your overall wedding experience?
Rather overwhelming but beautiful and a day just full of smiles 😊
Happy New Year everyone!

As a photographer I work on a variety of different themed shoots. However, there are always some shoots that stick out in my mind. One perfect example of this was a Boho Coral, Gold wedding shoot that took place at Shottle Hall, Derbyshire. There are a number of reasons why this shoot will stay with me and why it has become one of my favourite ones to organize and work on.
There is a wealth of beautiful venues up and down the country, and I am lucky, in the most part to be able to see plenty of these during my time working as a photographer. One thing that I know is incredibly important to couples is to get amazing photographs to keep and treasure from their special day. However, they may worry that they are going to be struck down with bad weather which may ruin their plans.
One of the best things about Shottle Hall is that not only there are some amazing outdoor locations where photos can be taken, but also, if the weather isn’t as kind as you hoped, there are plenty of stunning places to take photos indoors too.
When it comes to putting together a wedding photoshoot, one of the most important aspects has to be the suppliers. Suppliers are those who make a wedding photo shoot (and often help to bring a couple’s dreams to life when it comes to their wedding). I was so lucky to be able to bring together such talented suppliers.
It was fascinating to see how these amazing suppliers brought a fantastic array of ideas to life. I saw new ways to use balloons, silk ribbons and even wedding biscuits too. Which just goes to show how inspirational it can be from watching others.
The idea behind this Boho gold coral wedding shoot theme was, what I like to call, Coralation Boho. Coral, golds and greys mixed with the rustic charm that only Boho style can bring. It really was such a pleasure to capture images of the models in these styles.
Good evening all

I’d love to describe the photo shoot here, but I think it is better written in the magazine. The only thing I’d say here is that the atmosphere during the photo shoot was amazing, everyone did their best to make the shoot happen, and to get the best shots from it. Thanks to our amazing team:

This blog post is about Jo and James and their summer garden wedding photographs at Burton on Trent. It was a very unusual wedding in terms of the wedding day theme and I’m really pleased to share these photographs with you. Here is a little bit about the wedding day.
First of all, the guys organised a pagan wedding ceremony, involving lighting candles and jumping over a broomstick! The whole thing, including the rings exchange, was done at one of parents’ back garden in the presence of most of the guests! By judging how well they prepared this, you can say that this part was probably more important for the guys than the official one at the Burton’s registry office.
It was also unusual to me that most of the wedding day event were held at a private house back garden. The atmosphere was great, the garden was so beautiful and cozy and everybody enjoyed so much that I don’t think any of the guests noticed any difference compared to a proper wedding venue!
Jo kindly gave me an off line interview which, I hope, will inspire and give new ideas to the brides and grooms to be. She also shared a list of suppliers she used which may be of use as well. So, over to Jodie

How did you two meet?
We met at work, at our previous job. We didn’t really see much of each other at work but were both invited out by a mutual friend for after work drinks and then for a birthday bash – the rest is history! (Our first dance song has always been ‘our song’ – we found love in a hopeless place)
We are proud to take a part in the I DO wedding exhibition at Derby Arena which will take place on Sunday, 25th September, between 10am and 4:30pm. The venue address is The Velodrome, Royal Way, Derby DE24 8JB.
The exhibition, organised by I do wedding magazine is going to be one of the biggest in the area. “On Sunday 25th September the velodrome will host over 150 of the finest local wedding suppliers, all eager to help you organise your special day and best of all… it’s absolutely free for all brides-to be. It really will be a day of pure wedding bliss; starting with a bubbly reception and goodie bags full of freebies, there will be amazing Milan-style catwalk shows, a host of live entertainment from magicians to musicians, a wedding car display featuring Classic, Vintage, Modern and Prestige vehicles, plus competitions, special offers and so much more!”
Elen Studio Photography will be exhibiting there at stand N19. Please come to say Hello and to have a chat about your special day and, of course, about wedding photography 🙂
Hope to see you all there!
See you there
